Question: Can you suggest a DIY facial mask using ingredients that are readily available in the kitchen?

Answer: You can use basic natural ingredients found at home to make very simple facial masks. Depending on your skin type, the homemade masks will vary. Try these simple recipes.

Q&A: Homemade Facial Masks

Oily / Acne-Prone Skin: Banana Orange Mask

Mix together 1 very ripe banana (kept cold in the ref) and 1 tablespoon honey. Mash very well to make a paste. Add a few drops of fresh orange juice. Apply on your face using a cotton ball or a cosmetic spatula. Leave on for 15 minutes before removing with either a cold or warm washcloth. If you have breakouts, use Agave Nectar instead of honey and use lemon instead of orange juice, which produces a tingling sensation and dries up zits.

Dry Skin: Avocado and Honey Moisturizing Mask

Mash ½ ripe avocado in a bowl and stir in ¼ cup pure honey. Apply on skin and leave on for 10 minutes. Remove using a cool washcloth.

Sensitive / Itchy / Irritated Skin: Cold Yogurt Mask

Mix together 1 cup natural yogurt (I love it fresh out of the fridge) and ¼ cup oatmeal to make a paste. If you have chapped, broken, very dry skin, add 2 tablespoons honey. Apply on skin for 10 to 15 minutes, and wash off with a warm washcloth (be careful not to burn your skin). The cold mask will soothe itchiness (works well for sunburned skin too!).
